LOCAL HISTORY
Visit the Buried Village and learn of the historical eruption of
Mt Tarawera in 1886. On the lakefront of Rotorua are the beautiful church carvings
at Ohinemutu Village. Te Puia's cultural centre depicts the ancient Maori crafts and
life as it was pre-European. Rotorua Museum situated in the Government Gardens which
displays much of the local culture, arts and history.
THERMAL SIGHTS
This region is famous for its mud pools, thermal springs and geysers.
Places to visit are: Te Puia, Hell's Gate, Wai-O-Tapu, Waimangu Valley, Orakei Korako. Try a scenic flights over
Mt Tarawera or visit White Island's live volcano.
LAKES & FISHING
Many of the lakes in the Bay of Plenty region have beautiful bush scenery
and provide excellent boating and trout fishing. Hook up with one of the many local
guides with local knowledge for that ultimate experience.
HIKING & CYCLING
The region has many walking and cycling tracks, boasting some of
the most spectacular green flora scenery in the world.
To mention only a few are the Blue Lake, Okere Falls,
Whakarewarewa's Redwood Forest and many more scenic tracks
